The Anarchist Black Cross are autonomous chapters involving collectives of people who provide frontline support to those imprisoned for struggling for freedom and liberty. The ABC has been around contributing to the defense of mass movements working for liberation from state and capitalist domination. Historically, the ABC has organized support and defense of political prisoners and prisoners of war, maintained physical solidarity against police during factory and school occupations, organized self-defense and armed defense of social movements and fulfilled a broad range of roles within mass movement defense.
The ABC has been kept alive by a number of completely autonomous groups scattered throughout the world and has grown to support a wide variety of prison issues. We discuss Toronto ABC’s work with letter writing, 4struggle mag, front-line work, Phil Africa, the Cleveland 4, Eric McDavid, and why amplifying prisoners’ voices is important when collectively building communities of resistance
